Zweites Deutsches Fernsehen (ZDF) is the German public-service broadcaster based in Mainz Germany. ZDF envisioned a proposition enrichment by adding web streaming TV services to its existing platforms. Therefore, the ZDF issued a tender for replacing their DVB and OTT platform and to bring some additional gains to the technical platform and operational dynamics. Divitel, the independent system integrator with a passion for video distribution solutions was selected!
Since ZDF already had several impressive distribution platforms in place it was challenging to replace these platforms. The biggest challenges were the fact that there were several different platform management systems in place, existing equipment became end of life and how was the web stream service going to be managed on top of this? Obviously the new platform needed to deal with these challenges and had to offer the best technical performance possible.
We designed and built a multi-compression video distribution platform that enabled the ZDF to distribute high quality video content into all required formats and standards to all their customers. Some of these standards and formats are DVB-C, DVB-T, DVB-S, DVB-S2 but also IP for the internet. This platform is build and installed using quality ensuring procedures and work flows, equipment is replaced and all required documentation is in place.
This multi-compression video distribution system replaced the existing different management systems by an easy-to-use solution. Obviously this multi-compression video distribution platform ensures the required technical availability by technical redundancy. Together with ZDF we brought nearly every screen in Germany to life! In order to make sure we keep every screen alive we support and service this platform with our Divitel Operating Centrum (DOC), a professional and dedicated 24/7 support facility. Thanks to the successful operations of the ZDF multi-compression platform we recently extended the number of web streaming services. This allows more web channels to be available for the customers and end-users.
